Goodbye to all that...

Goodbye to all that...

Initial deadline has passed

Well, according to the schedule we should be back in and basking in our new underfloor heating by now. But as we never thought that would happen I'm not too worried. The kids' bedroom has been cleaned up, thank goodness, although we haven't got to the bottom of who trashed the fridge.

The ashtray/loo combo has gone forever now but will live on in all our memories. The back bedroom and loo have finally been knocked together. Imagine my husband's dismay when he went back to have a look the other night to find that the shiny new replacement wooden sash window the builders have put in there is exactly the same size as the old one, ie teeny tiny so it fits above the loo. With the loo gone we were rather hoping to have a larger window in there so our daughter can actually see out of her bedroom...Cue more agitated emails and phone calls to the builder. Luckily our case is solid as the larger window is in the spec and as we had to get planning permission for it our intentions have been pretty clear all along!

The pyschedelic bathroom wallpaper has gone too, which is a bit of a shame. I actually quite liked it, but I think I'm going to like the new glass splashback and power shower more.

Still no eyebrows for the front windows but the glass is in now and it's looking great, especially from the inside. The new front living room is unrecognisable - you'd never believe it was a garage a few months ago. I've been in a couple of times just to peer down the street - we've never actually seen out of the front of the house before ( well not at ground level anyway!) and it's a joy to behold. Never have next door's dustbins looked so glorious.

One more week in our lovely rented house. Although would you believe it, the oven has gone. I think my frenzied week of baking and roasting to make up for lost time killed the poor thing off. But hey, I have four rings and a microwave - there's nothing I can't do with that after 18 months of practice and ingenuity!
