Goodbye to all that...

Goodbye to all that...

Wednesday 3 June 2009

Not quite 26 miles but it's felt like a marathon...

We finally waved goodbye to Dawid today, which makes it exactly 7 weeks since we started. We've actually been 'in' the bedroom for a week, but that was with various dangly wires and unfinished bits. Plus we were away in Dorset for some of that time. But tonight it is all done, bar putting books on the shelves and pictures on the walls.

I've tested my lovely new shower room and arranged a tasteful selection of clothes in my newly renovated wardrobes. (My husband gives it 2 weeks before it's the same old mess as it was before, but for now at least I have a colour coded underwear drawer and nothing hanging up that I don't wear regularly. I've taken bags and bags of stuff to the charity shop!)

It wouldn't be the Worst House without a complication or two, so here goes:

- the shower cubicle has a design fault that means it leaks slightly at the hinges whatever you do ( Dawid has been back several time to loook at it to no avail.) Luckily I chose sealed white travertine on a concrete sub floor rather than wood, so it should be all right. It's only a drop or two each time, but with loo seat gate that might be the end of my affair with Bathstore.

- the adhesive on the roll-on floor protector that Dawid put down to protect our ( stripped wood) stairs seems to have bonded with the varnish, making the whole thing extremely sticky. I've been scrubbing it for a week with various potions to no avail. D assures me it will wear off eventually. I am comforted by the thought that the stairs are probably a bit safer as a result!

Pictures to follow tomorrow, in daylight. Although I'm not sure how good it will look given that the windows are filthy still - you can't get a window cleaner for love nor money round here at the moment. I have managed to get an appointment for next Thursday, which will include ( blush) the first ever clean for the glass roof in the kitchen.

It's looking lovely! Have you tried nail varnish remover to get rid of the stickiness - the cheaper variety with acetone in it?
